Two new cash drawer interfaces, the 486 NetPRO® and 854 USB aimed to enhance retailers’ security and store sales, were recently launched at RSPA’s RetailNOW convention in Grapevine, Texas. The 486 NetPRO® interface enables the authentication and encryption of communication over LAN at the Point of Sale and the 854 USB interface supports the power management model of Windows 10 to conserve tablet battery life in mobile point-of-sale facilitated environments.
Who should use the 486 NetPRO® Interface?
Any retailer that has multiple users that connect to multiple cash drawers over the same LAN should consider using the 486 NetPRO® interface. With increased organized crime, retailers are often the first target. Organized crime often takes place with both internal and external participants.
The new interface prevents any external hacks and increases user’s internal security control. The 486 NetPRO® interface’s authentication and encryption features serve the communication between it and a user on the same subnet. With the new interface, the cash drawer can only respond to the command that the authorized user sends. The 486 NetPRO® interface is the first of its kind on the market that can guard the cash drawer from hacking and un-authorized operation.
486 NetPRO® Interface Features:
- Secure and authenticated client-server communication with IP cash drawer
- AES-256 CBC mode encryption requiring 32-byte pre-shared key and 32-byte IV
- HMAC SHA-256 authentication requiring 32-byte pre-shared key
- Username (100-byte) and password (100-byte) verification
- Manufacture’s default state restricts access to client credential assignment only
- Available in APG’s Series 4000 (except 13×17) and 100 cash drawers
Who should use the 854 USB interface?
Any retailer that is going to update to Windows 10 with the 854 USB interface will optimize their battery function. Anyone who has already updated to Windows 10 and is going to adopt mPOS solutions will eliminate tablet down time with APG’s 854 USB interfaced cash drawers.
The 854 USB interface allows Windows 10 to reserve tablet battery life in mobile POS environments; therefore, a retailer will not lose out on any sale during mPOS transaction down time.
854 USB Interface Features:
- HID class device
- Supports device power management for USB peripherals
- The cash drawer sleeps when not in use, saving the tablet’s battery power
- Configurable driver provides flexibility in device management so it may be tailored to the environment
- Available in APG’s Series 4000 (except 13×17), Series 100, and Vasario™ (except 13×13) cash drawers
