When starting up a new business or updating an existing one, usually the cash drawer is the last on your mind when it comes to the POS system. However, if you want a successful business, and you plan to accept payments, your cash drawer and POS system are absolutely necessary. It is always reassuring to do business with a trusted and established company; APG Cash Drawer has been providing these services for over 35 years and is well known for their durable and dependable products. A cash drawer is more than just a box at your POS station; there are many options to consider in order to properly fulfill your needs. APG Cash Drawer has addressed many of the operational factors that ensure a quality built drawer. Beyond the appearance of your cash drawer, the following attributes should be explored:
- Operational Expectations – Goals
- Till Features – Options
- What Interface Technology Drives the Process?
- Aesthetics and Store Layout
Operational Expectations – Goals
Before selecting POS hardware, it is important for retailers to first evaluate their business needs. What do you expect your transaction volume to be? If you expect a high volume of transactions, a product from our heavy-duty product line will be the most beneficial to you. Standard duty cash drawers are suited for environments with low levels of transactions. These drawers are cost-effective without compromising the security and reliability you trust. Manually operated drawers are also available within the standard duty product line, offering protection and utility in electrically free environments.
Our heavy-duty cash drawers feature steel ball bearing slides and a robust latch mechanism. These drawers are tested to last beyond four million cycles. Our cash drawers are tested with twelve pounds of resistance in the till to ensure a lasting product and secure functionality.
Till Features – Options
Once you have determined what level of cash drawer durability you require, you will need to select an appropriate till. We offer tills that fit currencies from around the world. Our standard duty drawers are available with either a fixed till or an adjustable till, allowing you to customize your drawer. For further information regarding our standard duty cash drawers, explore the Vasario™ Series product line.
What Interface Technology Drives the Process?
Technology is what drives the future and motivates development. Consumers are mobile, and mobile technology has brought new expectations. Retailers are starting to adopt a Thinbility POS environment. Thinbility refers to point of sale solutions that are Thin (tablets connected to the cloud) and Mobile (clerks assisting customers with tablets in a mobile environment). The Thinbility environment has already been embraced by many retailers. We now offer Bluetooth and Ethernet interfaces for cash drawers. These solutions allow retailers to successfully implement a Thinbility point of sale solution.
Another ideal option for thin and mobile environments is a cash drawer with a printer-driven interface, connected to an Ethernet interfaced POS printer. These printers all have a cash drawer port to communicate with the drawer. The mobile device speaks to the printer through the store’s network to open the drawer.
Unlike the BluePRO® device or NetPRO® drawers, this setup has a potential security issue in that the printer doesn’t care about proximity and will open the drawer whenever it gets the command, even if the drawer is not attended. This could lead to theft.
Aesthetics and Store Layout
There was once a time when all cash drawers and POS stations looked similar. Today, individuality and customization have taken over in hopes of outshining competitors in each industry. The layout and positioning of your POS can dictate a customer’s experience just as much as the display in the window that brings them through your front doors. You want to position your POS in a location that promotes a smooth traffic flow throughout your business. Integrating your POS hardware into the aesthetics of your store is also an option.
Retailers who install a tablet-based POS can take advantage of clutter-free counters and the flexibility to place their checkout almost anywhere in the store. Reducing clutter can be easily addressed by managing cables and installing under-counter mounting brackets. We also offer many cash drawer integration solutions.
Each of the above sections will be highlighted throughout the weekly installments of this series,
