Question 1

What is a cash drawer, and how does it work??

Accepted Answer

A cash drawer is a secure, spring-loaded device that stores cash, coins, and checks at the point of sale (POS). It connects to a receipt printer or POS terminal, which sends an electrical signal to automatically release the latch and open the drawer when a cash transaction is completed. The cashier then closes it manually, and a keyed lock keeps it secure until the next transaction.

Question 2

How do I choose between a Light Duty, Standard Duty, and Heavy Duty cash drawer?

Accepted Answer

It comes down to transaction volume. Light Duty drawers are built for low-volume environments like kiosks and pop-up shops, and have been tested to 500,000 cycles. Standard Duty models handle moderate traffic and are tested to 1,000,000 cycles. Heavy Duty drawers are built for high-traffic settings, like grocery stores and fast-food chains, and are tested to more than 4,000,000 cycles. You should choose a drawer based on your daily volume to ensure that you get the best value and the longest lifespan.

Question 3

Which cash drawer is best for my retail business?

Accepted Answer

The first consideration for finding the best cash drawer for your business is your transaction volume and available counter space. Our Light Duty family offers compact cash drawers for low-volume use, while our Standard Duty family provides cash drawers for moderate, general retail needs in medium-volume environments. Our Heavy Duty models are cash drawers made for high transaction volume like grocery stores or quick-serve restaurants. Aside from size and transaction volume requirements, also consider compatibility with your POS system and the appropriate interface connection.

Question 4

How do I choose the right cash drawer size?
