The announcement of the WiFi cash drawer comes subsequent to the release of the 1st ever IP-enabled cash drawer in 2010. Requiring only a power cable, the WiFi cash drawer can detect and connect to a retailer’s wireless subnet via their existing wireless access point. APG will exhibit their new NetPRO® solutions at EuroCIS in Hall 09 / F52. Available in both wired and wireless configurations, NetPRO® cash drawers will communicate with merchant’s mobile POS devices for normal drawer operation. “Retailers are concerned about security of cash in a mobile world,” stated Paul St. George, Engineering Manager at APG Cash Drawer. “NetPRO®cash drawers offer Biometric and bar-code claiming for local protection of the cash contents.” NetPRO® cash drawers also collect the date and time length of each transaction, supplying the data necessary to detect suspicious transactions and possible fraud scenarios. This reduces shrinkage by organizing efficient monitoring of the POS area. “Retailers are often worried about unauthorized or unusual drawer openings. Store management can receive instant alerts via email and/or text messages when a cash drawer has been manually opened or has been opened too long. A combination of such alerts with video footage provides instant situational awareness and solid proof of an event.,” stated St. George. The WiFi thin-client interface now makes it possible for point of sale service organizations to offer a new type of loss prevention service to their customers. The interface leverages security camera monitoring and alerting capabilities for point of sale hardware and software. “Our new mobile solution suite of cash drawers opens the door for Point of Sale ISVs to build on additional capabilities that will distinguish their POS application, increase the potential for the service providers, and ultimately add value to their customers – the merchants,” affirmed St. George.
