Woodman’s Food Market and Martins IGA lists positives of Cashier Console

In October of 2001, Services, Inc. installed an ergonomically efficient POS Workstation in the checkouts at Woodman’s Food Market. The idea has caught on in the grocery industry as Martins IGA takes full advantage of this efficient customer-friendly console. Services, Inc. developed the POS Tech Cashier Console^® in conjunction with APG’s POS PodiumTM Cash Drawer. Configured for efficiency, the Cashier Console uniquely locates the APG cash drawer directly above the scanner scale and on new or existing check-stands. The console provides an adjustable mounting bracket to fit all types of scanner scales, allowing easy removal and service of the scanner scale. A platform is used to arrange the keyboard, EFT and receipt printer within convenient reach. Scanning, bagging, and payment are completed smoothly while the service associate maintains continuous contact with the customer. The design eliminates the uncomfortable twisting and bending associated with reaching to the traditional location of the cash drawer. Turning away from the till to tend change is eliminated and improves cash security. Within six months of the first installation Woodman’s decided to remodel all their stores and since that date some 200 installations are operating successfully. The number one goal of faster more friendly payment transactions was met and exceeded with the more ergonomically efficient workstation. Woodman’s employees noticed a remarkable improvement in attentive customer contact, yet another reason why the customer’s choose to return to the Woodman’s shopping experience.
